About The Kings Arms and Old Cookham
The Kings Arms is a traditional village pub offering great food, friendly service, real ale and a great outside eating area for warm days and evenings. The pub was originally named the King's Head a name of derived from the fact that it was situated on the King's highway and that commemorated the execution of Charles I. Between 1668 and 1754 the name changed to the King's Arms, probably to distance the pub from being accused of revelling in the king's demise.
Places of Interest around Cookham
The River Thames flows past Cookham on its way from Marlow to Taplow, and forms the boundary with Buckinghamshire. Near by Winter Hill affords excellent views over the Thames Valley. Cookham is a popular tourist destination, with walks along the Thames Path and the Stanley Spencer Gallery, based in the former Methodist chapel, a permanent exhibition of the artist's works.
